Rajasthan Bal Kalyan Samiti (RBKS)

Non Governmental Organization India

As our working areas are remote, they do lack basic medical facilities as very few doctors appointed there are present. There are no primary health centres which makes timely medical health pretty difficult to obtain. RBKS has been trying to address health issues with a focus towards “improvement of health on a long term basis”. The major emphasis of the program is on “Preventive Health”. The health program also includes involvement in activities like Pulse Polio Camp, Health Check-up Camps for Women and provision of nutritional food for students in the child labour schools and crèches. Interactive awareness meetings are organized in different project villages on the issue of reviving traditional health care system. Thus people have poor access to health facilities located in distant centres. RBKS address the issues relating to

  • Lack of knowledge and awareness
  • Prevention is better than cure
  • Improved access to basic health-care facilities

It is observed that in tribal remote villages, where health facilities are located at long distances and transport facilities are poor, any minor ignorance/delay causes fatal situations. There are many diseases, which if given attentions and timely action taken, losses can be controlled. Therefore one of the key focuses of RBKS activity is awareness generation, skill building, and local treatment of deadly diseases. Some of the initiatives are: Immunization Campaign, training to local birth attended, Training on RCH, BCC, awareness building on family planning, training of ASHA members training under NRHM of central government.

Health Camp

In the operational areas, the health-care facilities are inadequate, therefore, RBKS promotes health-care camps for the rural tribal on a regular basis. During last year nineteen health camps were organized in nineteen remote villages around Udaipur in Jhadol and Kotra Block. In our health camps; women, children, adults and males were checked and treated for diseases like viral fever, malaria, sexual diseases, immunization of children and pregnant, reproductive problems, cough, stomachache, headache etc. These camps are organized for one day each, where total of 1200 patients were provided counseling and treatment as per the diseases. From which 30 blood samples collected.

Immunization

It is well known that prevention is always better than cure and being an active agency in health sector RBKS adopts preventive measures for disease control, which included motivation for immunization against life risk diseases of the children and mother. Beside routine immunization, activities also focused to control prevailing anaemia among women especially pregnant women and children. This is achieved through continued and regular contact drives.

Health Activities/Traditional Health-care System

By generating awareness and conducting health-care seminars and camps we are focusing on ‘Preventive Health’. RBKS has been trying to address the health problem with a focus on “Improving health on long term basis”. The health programmes also includes involvement in activities like Pulse Polio Camp, Health Check-Ups Camps for women and Nutritional Food for students of Child Labour School & Creches. Interactive awareness meetings were organized in different project villages on the issue of revival of Traditional Health Care System.

RBKS has also been trying to address the health programme on an individual basis and also under different existing programmes. Our health programmes involved activities like Pulse Polio Camp, Health Check-up Camps for Women, and Nutritional Food for students in the Child Labour School & Creches.
