Rajasthan Bal Kalyan Samiti (RBKS)

Non Governmental Organization India

Human Development index in Rajasthan is very low and even lower in our area of operation. Child  rights are violated to a great extent. Infant Mortality Rate is too high and the immunization status, nutritional status, educational status is awfully poor. RBKS is actively involved and devoted to working towards an integrated child education program and the rehabilitation of child labour, providing adequate nutrition and promoting overall child development since its inception.

RBKS Child Development Project

The major objectives of this project is to improve maternal health to improve the survival rates of children between 0-2 years, and to equip the adolescent girls and boys with reproductive health information. The main strategies involves cluster approach, school intervention, group formation communication methods and developing linkages with the line department.
Our project of Child Sponsorship project started in association with Child-Fund India to support child development in remote regions of three Panchayats of Mandawa area, namely Zed, Mandwa and Kukawas.
As per the census data 2010, Kotra is most under-developed area of Rajasthan. This project strengthens RBKS mission of “Improvement in the quality of life of people through education, awareness and formation of people’s organizations, Natural Resource Management for a greater self-reliant society” and is enhancing reach of Child Fund to deprived children.

Our team is operating in twenty villages spread over in 87 hamlets made up of 3426 households with a population of 20382. The area is part of a tribal dominated Kotra block in Udaipur District, bordering Sirohi district in the west and the state of Gujarat in the South. The area forms the south-western fringes of Aravalli hills. The main target of this project is to provide development opportunities to all tribal children. To achieve this we have set the following specific objectives:

  • To create a growth of opportunities for children of remote tribal communities
  • Increased education opportunities for school going, dropout, and left out children.
  • Increased access to health facilities, better nutrition habits and safe drinking water
  • Assisting 3426 vulnerable families in raising their livelihood economics so as to help them bring up their children.

Child Labour Rehab Centres

Most of the households in our working area, send their wards to nearby towns to earn a living for their families. Realising this RBKS initiated a Special Child Labour Education and Rehabilitation Centre in 1995. Since 1995, RBKS is participating in “Child Labour rehabilitation” under National child labour Project rehabilitation programme. Besides centres run by RBKS in Rajasthan, we have also facilitated Child Labour Special Schools in Ratlam and Khargone districts of Madhya Pradesh.

The NGO Network of MP operates the special schools for child labours. This programme addressed problems faced by children who migrate to the adjoining state of Gujarat. Till this date sixteen such centres in four districts have helped 1279 children get linked to mainstream education and enjoy their rights through these centres.

Orphanage

In our working area spread over two states, there are many children who have lost their parents and have no care-takers. As a social responsibility towards these children the government of Rajasthan has a scheme of orphan home units of twenty-five children. RBKS is running two units one each for orphan boys and girls. The Department and RBKS identify the children for the orphan home unit.
