Target Group
Our major target groups constitute poor tribal women and children. We focus on resource-less people and households for an all-round change. We work with people from Schedule Tribe (ST), Schedule Caste (SC) and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities who are completely dependent on the agriculture and allied activities for their living. Degradation and mismanagement of natural resources is an acute problem in the area. Due to soil erosion, water scarcity, low soil fertility and beyond, people are overloaded with crises and their predicament is intensifying with every passing day. They don’t have awareness and access to basic facilities of health/sanitation and knowledge.
There is rampant child immigrants, who go to nearby towns to work as a child labour and earn a living for them and their families. Drop out rate of children in school is a challenge and this needs greater application to turn the tide. The discrimination between male and female child besides the bigotry between the lower castes and upper ones is customary.
The society is too ignorant to work for itself or for education or health. Girls are not sent to school as they are still considered economic burdens, and male child are sent out to earn. Destitute and widows are the most vulnerable asides orphans.
The above makes a very challenging mix. With 30 years of our application in the area of operations we have made a dent but complete turn over will take time.
